CARING FOR OUR LANDS: PARROT’S FEATHER

Plucking Parrot's Feather at Clear Lake

Last fall, our Seasons Stewards—the 2020 incarnation of the Wednesday Weed Warriors—took several trips to NCLC’s Clear Lake Habitat Reserve to remove parrot’s feather, an invasive weed that doesn’t belong in Clatsop County. It blocks sunlight and oxygen exchange and discourages native plant diversity, all of which can harm wildlife habitat. Due to the volunteers’ dedication, the wetlands at Clear Lake was substantially cleared of this weed. While it may come back in the future, our hope is to keep it in check with occasional work parties at Clear Lake. MORE
